To design and make a musical instrument using junk and/or recycled materials.
Instructions:
By the end of term, you will have constructed a musical instrument out of junk or recycled materials. You will need to think about the following before you start construction:
What sounds do you want it to make? (Loud, soft, high, low…)
Is it going to be a pitched (i.e. makes definite notes, like a flute, a piano, a violin or a trumpet) or unpitched (i.e. no definites notes, like a drum)?
How big is it going to be? (Take into account how you are going to get it to school and up the stairs to the music room!)
What materials do you have available?
Assessment:
You will be assessed on the following:
Originality – how many times has this been done before. (Shakers will be marked low, as they turn up every year!)
Construction – how well made the instrument is, and what materials have been used.
Sounds – what sort of sounds can be produced by the instrument.
The instruments are due at SWIS in Week 9 of this term. Please bring them with you to your music class.
