Principal’s Comment

Linda Jones, an American education expert, has stated that when parents are meaningfully involved in their children’s education, children achieve at a higher level and have more positive attitudes towards school.

She suggested strategies for parents to enhance their child’s progress.

  • Talk with your child about daily events and take time to listen to what your child tells you. Conversation promotes learning.
  • Read aloud to your child every day if possible—and encourage your child to read to you. This promotes reading from infants up. Take your child to the library and get them their own library card.
  • Take your child to new and different places such as museums, historical sites and nature centres. Talk about what you see.
  • Supervise television viewing. Choose good programmes and set time limits. Talk about the programmes they watch.
  • Be generous in showing affection and express interest in everyday activities and accomplishments of your child.
  • Establish a regular time and place for home-study, and encourage and praise completion.
  • Encourage good health practices by making sure your child gets regular, nutritious meals, plenty of exercise and sleep, and has regular medical check-ups.
  • You can instil self-confidence by encouraging your child to believe in his or her self-worth and abilities.
  • Monitor how your child spends their time outside school. Limit video games and television. Encourage reading, hobbies and other worthwhile activities.
  • Make sure your child attends school regularly and punctually. Show an interest in what is being learned at school and let them know that you believe education is important.
  • Be a role model for your child. Children imitate what they see their parents doing.

MONEY!

I know that this time of year is very expensive for parents. If you are having difficulty paying for all the things your child needs at this time, please contact me. Together we can plan to make payments throughout the year.

Even if you think you could never pay for things such as camp, don’t give up! I would hate to see children miss out on important learning opportunities because of a lack of money.

Together we may find a solution.

Empty Computer Cartridges

Don’t throw them away!

Send them to school with your child. We will collect them and can raise $4 for each one, any size. Remember your empty ones at work as well. Ask friends and family to collect for you.

Let’s see how many we can get!!

BE SUNSMART!

It was very pleasing to see a number of children making a positive personal health decision by wearing hats or caps when out in the sun. We actively encourage all children to wear hats during the summer terms and sunscreen is available to all students to put on.

Robyn Cantlon, the public Health Nurse, will be reinforcing the Sunsmart message with a lesson in each class before camp.
