                        The Band

Being in SWIS’ school band is a fun,  exciting way of learning.  Team-work, fast thinking skills and musical ability are just some of the things we are getting better at.  Currently, Paddy, our mentor, is teaching us Let It Be by The Beatles and Gives Your Hell, by All American Rejects.

Our Vocalists Juliane and Valerie are very capable, Tommy, our drummer, is awesome in all genres of music.  Walter, our rhythm guitarist, is keeping the rhythm fresh and exciting.  Jamin is fantastic on the bass and Kiran is our fantastic, experienced lead guitarist.  Jan is amazing on the piano, he could easily match Ms Sangster.  Paddy is getting us on the fast lane to Battle of the Bands.

All in all the Music for South Wellington Intermediate in 2010 is one fantastic programme.

                 Music Groups

As part of our music programme, we have two groups at the moment who meet regularly during the week, and one to start in Term 3.

The band works with Paddy Bleakley every Friday from 12pm until 1pm, and is preparing for the annual Battle of the Bands to be held at Maidstone Intermediate in Term 4. This group of 6, including the two vocalists, is a very talented lot, and are enjoying searching for the perfect material which suits both the singers and the instrumentalists.

The ukulele group started at the end of the first cycle of music, after 6 weeks of learning the basic chords on the ukulele, and meets at interval on Thursdays. There are about 12-15 members of the group (numbers vary weekly!), and we are working on a number of more advanced songs, like Somewhere Over the Rainbow, These Boots Were Made For Walking, and Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town. They are aiming to perform at the biennial Cultural Festival in Term 4.

The choir will start next term on Mondays at interval. This is an all-comers group, and will also be working towards performing at the Cultural Festival.
