Science Curriculum Report
Evaluation
The amount in the 2007 budget is $500. With this we have purchased some equipment for the science room: glass beakers, test tube holders, microscopes, dissection equipment, magnets and four lights to click onto the desks for better light in class.
The topics for the first three terms are:
- T1: Insects, and Science Fair preparation. This included some experiments to demonstrate scientific method and how to record experiments.
- T2: Water, and final stages of Science Fair preparation.
- T3: Science Fair, Electricity, Force & Pulleys and Physical and Chemical Change.
The Science Fair has been very successful and we have entered a record number of students in the Wellington finals.
The finalists were marked by Asra Moeed from Victoria University, and the feedback from her has been very welcome.
Both genders are achieving very well with 89% of the students are at Level 3 or above which is very pleasing. The remaining students are primarily ESOL.
Year 8s show natural development from Year 7 with 55% achieving at Level 4 or above.
All ethnicities are achieving within expected parameters.
The Teacher Aides are a great support and help for students achieving at lower levels.
