This 2 day tournament was a huge success for the SWIS teams this year. On the first day the girls had a successful day including beating eventual finalists Raroa 1 - 0. Unfortunately a lose to EBIS in the semi put an end to a potential rematch and we eventually finished 4th.
The boys had a successful day as well, dominating their pool before a making their way through the knock out games setting up a rematch against Hutt in the final. This time Hutt reversed the result from pool play to claim a 2 - 1 victory and SWIS finished second. Well done to the players from both teams. You all played with skill and spirit.

It's Pink Shirt Day tomorrow.
We're looking forward to seeing our wonderful students stand together to stop bullying by wearing their pink shirts (or partially pink shirts) and bringing a gold coin donation that will go to the Mental Health Foundation. Check back in tomorrow to see some wonderful photos of the staff and students of SWIS looking pretty in pink.

Heart breaking 2-1 loss. So proud of the boys. Lot of heart and fight.

1-1!!! Ryan with the equaliser!

Mac with a shot that was heading top corner only for the 7ft keeper to pull of a huge save! SWIS on top early.

SWIS with the first chance. Couldn't quite get on the end of a cross.

Goal against the play. Hutt 1 - 0.

Good luck SWIS!!

Go SWIS!

We couldn't squeeze the following into the newsletter due to space, but we wanted to share this with you as well. Thanks Jana and Zachary for your words of support.

The union meeting
On Monday 6th there was a union meeting for the teachers. The union meeting is held because the teacher’s 3 years contract has ended, and the teachers and the government can’t decide what the new contract will be. Guess what? What the teachers want is different than what the government is giving them. The people at the meeting will have a vote on what happens next. There might be a super strike on the 29th of May, which means that most schools will be closed. Hopefully the teachers get what they want😊. By Zachary and Jana

NB. Unfortunately it looks like there will be a strike, we will let you know as soon as we do.

Yesterday we had a fantastic presentation from the founders of Beyond Water as part of our sustainability unit. Their presentation certainly opened our eyes to what a precious resource water is in parts of Africa, but also around the world. Included in the presentation were activities such as the one in the video. Even though all the activities were fun there were serious messages as well. The lesson from this activity related to the fact that even toilet paper, something we take for granted is a luxury for some people in the world.
