Newsletter Nov 22 | Term 4, Week 6

This issue covers:

  • EOTC Week
  • Floorball
  • Support of our wonderful support staff

Rongotai MP, Paul Eagle met with the fabulous support staff here at SWIS. They came together for morning tea as our team shared what the role of teacher aides, office staff and caretakers really involves. It would be no exaggeration to say that Paul was blown away by the dedication, empathy, compassion and skills that these valued members of our community display on a daily basis. As you may be aware the support staff are currently in negotiations with the government for better conditions. A win for them would be equality across the sector with funding for their salaries provided in the same way as teacher salaries are funded. This would mean that schools no longer have to fund teacher aides from their operating grants. No longer would we need to choose support staff or resources, we could have both. That has to be to the benefit of all students and is worth  fighting for.

What a week! It started with our SWIS cross country day. Or as we chose to call it: The Spongebob sweaty pants event and the Spongebob patchy pants event. Students wanting a challenge signed up for event 1, which this year was twice around the course and both year levels got to run together. The 2nd event had nearly the whole school entered! We don’t know who had more fun on the day, those using the water guns and sponges, those trying to pass by without getting splashed...or the ones who got drenched. ... See MoreSee Less
