Senior Management

Toby Stokes - Principal

Kia ora tatou,

I am really excited to be working with the talented staff and communities of South Wellington Intermediate School.
I work hard to bring learning alive in the school I lead and I am an experienced principal who ensures that we are all providing the best opportunities for our students.
I have had the opportunity to teach students across all age ranges, in different parts of New Zealand as well as the USA.  This has given me the opportunity to work with different cultures and this journey will continue at SWIS.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and I have two wonderful dogs who fill my downtime with walks and fetching!
Aloma Barry - Assistant Principal

Aloma came to SWIS after teaching at a full primary school in Porirua for 13 years. During that time she also completed her Masters degree in Teaching English as a Second Language, trained as an ALiM teacher (Accelerated learning in Maths) through Cognition, and completed post graduate study through Massey to be a Maths support teacher (MST1). Aloma enjoys travel and once did voluntary work for 6 months in Brazil as a fitness instructor. She loves photography, science fiction, art, flowers and animals.

Karl Emson - Assistant Principal

Ki ora tatou, I am really excited to be a part of the SWIS teaching and leadership teams. I have been teaching at year 7 and 8 levels for 8 years and find the age group an amazing time of transition. I will be the homeroom teacher in Room 8 and working as an assistant principal. I have a passion for the pastoral care part of teaching and enjoy working with students inside and outside the classroom. I am passionate about sport and enjoy coaching teams.  Outside of school I have a busy family life, my wife and I have just welcomed our fourth daughter into our busy household. I can often be found walking the dog at Lyall Bay beach and enjoy spending time in and around the water.
