There are a number of administrative things you will need to do as part of your child’s enrolment or at some stage during their time at SWIS.

Uniforms

The SWIS uniform consists of a number core items to cover all seasons, along with a number of optional items such as backpacks and hats. Some items are available in the school office, most can be purchased through our uniform supplier. See all our uniform information here.

Stationery

Stationery can be purchased at the beginning of the school year from OfficeMax MySchool website (myschool.co.nz) or Quizzle School Packs team (https://schoolpacks.co.nz/). Additional items can be purchased from the school office during the year. See the full list of stationery here.

School Payments & Permission Forms - on KINDO

You are able to pay for all school activities online using Kindo.

Once registered, you will be able to pay for donations, trips, stationery etc.

Kindo also acts as an online permission form, so you may be asked to sign your child up on Kindo for an activity that doesn’t have a cost attached.

School Donations

School donations are voluntary (and tax deductible) and help fund the curriculum, classroom resources including playground and sports equipment and library facilities.

Donation: $270/child (per year)

Other than optional and sporting events, we anticipate no extra in-school costs over and above these costs.

Information regarding payments of these donations is emailed to parents each term.

School donations can be paid on KINDO.

Also remember that you can claim a third of your donation back from the IRD. See more information here

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

SWIS is a BYOD school and students are encouraged to bring devices to school to assist with their learning.  You can find out what BYOD means, here.

Opportunities will always be provided for those students who do not bring a device, with classrooms having supplies of Chromebooks for student use.

If you are considering purchasing a device for use at school then we recommend that you read the document published by Netsafe as they are helpful in ensuring that devices are as safe as possible.

What device should students have?

We recognise that students are only at SWIS for 2 years so parents should also take into account any requirements that secondary schools may have if buying a brand new device.

BYOD Devices for use at South Wellington Intermediate School should have:

  • A screen greater than 10”

  • Be WIFI capable (recommend WiFI N minimum)

  • A working battery with a rated 6-hour use

  • A keyboard (can be portable/Bluetooth)

  • Up to date operating system and antivirus software

  • Must be able to run Google Chrome

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like further information.

South Wellington Intermediate uses the @school Parent Portal to enhance communication between the school and parents. Each user of @school Parent Portal must sign the Parent Portal section the SWIS enrolment form.

Police Vetting

SWIS often asks for parent help, particularly for things like Camp, EOTC week, and other trips or extra activities, including sports events.

We are required to police check adults who accompany our students on these activities, which involves providing two forms of ID (one must be photographic) and giving consent to SWIS running a police check.

These checks can sometimes take awhile to return, so it’s helpful to have the checks done in advance.

If you think you might be able to be a parent helper at some point during your child’s time at SWIS, download this form, fill it in and return it to the office.

We thank you very much for your time and effort in volunteering to be a parent helper!
