Tena koutou and welcome to SWIS 2016
Welcome back to SWIS year 8 students. You all seem to have grown up over the holidays, and have already begun to show yourselves as the new leaders of not only SWIS but also the future.
Welcome to all of the new students from near and far. It's great to have you a part of our journey.
Welcome to our whanau and community, some new, some returning, some who have been with us for many years now. We have a busy and exciting year ahead, so buckle up and join us for an amazing ride.
I would like to introduce our two new staff members:
Mr Rauru Walker is our new Deputy Principal. Mr Walker comes to us from the RTLB service and brings a wealth of knowledge about meeting the needs of all students. He also brings strengths in Maori kaupapa, and mathematics and will be sharing Room 9 with Mr Young.
Mr Will Thomson is a new teacher in Room 3. Although this is technically his first year as a teacher, he actually has taught overseas before deciding to formalise his education with a teaching degree. He brings strengths in music and performing arts and will work with Ms Robeison on the school production.
School camps are super early this year, with the first going out on Wednesday 10 February. The cost for camp this year is $190. We are well aware that this is a big extra cost at an already expensive time of the year, so please come and talk to either Gita in the office (our accounts manager) or me, and we will happily come up with a plan that works for you. We don't ever want money to inhibit the opportunities for our students.
Shortly there will be a school calendar here on the website, and also class pages which will have the contact details of staff. In the meantime, if you need to contact anyone it is first name . last name @ swis.school.nz eg firstname.lastname@example.org
Nga mihi nui koutou,
