Using HERO

HERO, our student management system, is the hub for all school communication, keeping us connected and informed!

HERO helps with:

  • Notifying us of absences
  • Sending out important school notices
  • Sharing our fortnightly newsletter
  • Making payments
  • Granting permissions for trips
  • Accessing the school calendar
  • Viewing term dates
  • Making school bookings
  • Connecting to the school website

Communication between home & school

We recommend that whānau download the HERO app and add it to their phone’s home screen. While you can also access HERO on a laptop, using the app helps ensure you don’t miss important notifications and reminders.

You can choose to receive updates via email or in-app notifications, depending on your preference.

Other communications

  • Fortnightly newsletter (shared via HERO, on our website, and our Facebook page)
  • SWIS Facebook page – reminders and celebrate the great things happening in and around our school
  • SMS text messaging – in the event of a school-wide emergency.

Payments & permission

You are able to pay for all school activities online through the Hero app.

School payments can also be paid using cash or eftpos at the school office, or online using the school bank account:

South Wellington Intermediate

Important note: please reference the child’s name and what the payment is for.

We use Hero to give permission for things like trips via the poll function. You will receive a Hero notification requesting permission. Simply click the checkbox in the Hero post to give permission for your child to attend or participate in activities.

School donations

School donations are voluntary (and tax deductible) and help support our curriculum, classroom resources, playground and sports equipment, and library facilities.

Donation: $270 per child, per year

Aside from optional activities and sports events, there are no additional in-school costs.

Donations are loaded to your child’s Hero account and can be paid online or via other methods. Payment information is shared with families each term.

You may also be able to claim one-third of your donation back from IRD. See more information here
