Netball Season Comes to an End
This Saturday will be the final round of Motu Kairangi school netball for the season. I want to take a moment to thank all the parents, past students and supporters who have contributed in so many ways – coaching, managing, scoring and officiating on behalf of our school.
We are incredibly grateful for everyone’s support, with a special thank you to Kate Lee-Gleisner and the netball committee for all their work throughout the season.
It has been a real delight watching our teams play. They have represented SWIS extremely well, made great progress throughout the season and should be proud of their efforts.
Well done to all our netballers!
Sexuality and Puberty Education
This term we will begin our Sexuality and Puberty Education programme, using the Navigating the Journey resource, as we have in previous years. The programme will be taught during homeroom by students’ homeroom teachers. The first two lessons will take place this term, with the remainder of the programme completed in Term 4.
Topics include:
- Safe ways to ask questions and learn together
- Healthy relationships and setting boundaries
- Accepting diversity
- Assertiveness and decision-making
- Puberty and managing change
- Understanding our reproductive systems
- Listening to our feelings
- Online safety, including cyberbullying
- Online safety, including pornography and sexting
- Identifying the people and communities who support us

Our Kapa Haka group is running a raffle to help fundraise for our upcoming stand at Te Manukura Tahi – Wellington Kapa Haka Regionals! This is a pretty exciting milestone for SWIS, as it will be our first stand at regionals in eight years!

See the confirmed Orientation Days below, however we recommend that parents check their emails (once you’ve enrolled your child you will be contacted with more info) and the college website.
Wellington Boys College and Rongotai College: Friday 13 November. Students must get themselves there by 9am in non-uniform and do not come back to SWIS, they are there the whole day. PARENTS MUST LET SWIS KNOW THEY ARE GOING.
Wellington East Girls’ College: Tuesday 24 November. Students must get themselves there and we will take them back to SWIS on a bus at midday. They must be in school uniform and they MUST come back on the bus. PARENTS MUST LET SWIS KNOW THEY ARE GOING.
St Catherine’s College, St Mary’s College and St Patrick’s College: Thursday 19 November. Students must get themselves there by 9am in non-uniform and do not come back to SWIS, they are there the whole day. PARENTS MUST LET SWIS KNOW THEY ARE GOING.

WRISSA Flag competition
A huge well done to our SWIS Flag Team, who competed at the WRISSA Flag competition, finishing 12th out of 15 teams.
It was a challenging day, but our girls showed plenty of heart, positivity and determination throughout the competition. We’re proud of the way they supported each other, kept going and represented SWIS with such a great attitude.

Visit to Kaicycle urban farm
Today our Kitchen Pūtaiao enrichment group had a trip to Kaicycle Urban Farm, where our students learnt about regenerative farming or composting. Kaicycle practice and share Māori-led organic & regenerative farming principles, known as Hua Parakore. Check out their website here!
Kaicycle is an urban farm that is growing lots of food for the Newtown community and it was super awesome we got to try heaps of leaves and parts of the vegetable we don’t usually eat. – Anvitha Rm12
